This pepper is called by 2 names depending on when it is used. “Ancho” when used in the dry stage for chili powder & spice, and “Poblano” when used fresh off the vine. Plants grow up to 3′ tall and produce 3-5” long, heart shaped peppers that have mild- medium heat. (1,000-3,000 Scoville Units) Can be used when dark green in color but is more rich in flavor and hotter in the beautiful, dark red stage. This pepper also grows well in cooler regions when transplanted on time. Multiple cooking uses include spice, salsa, grilling, stuffing, stir-fry, guacamole, and a sweet pepper replacement in salads to give them a little kick!
