A North American annual that makes a good substitute for spinach as well as an eye catcher! Also known as Beetberry and Indian Ink. The light green, triangular leaves are nicely flavored and plant is more heat tolerant than its spinach counterpart. The mulberry type, red berries are semi-sweet but are more for visual than appetite. Indians used them for dyes in their hides and baskets. Keep in controlled area as it is known for being somewhat invasive if left to grow freely.
