California Blackeye Cowpea
$3.00
These southern peas are the most widely used cowpeas throughout the country. The 14-18” tall plants, with 6-8” long pods, grow mostly upright, but may also produce semi-spreading vines. Seeds are protein rich, medium-large in size, and have the dark black-eye trademark on its white shell. These can be used fresh like snap beans or shell peas in their early stage or dried at full maturity. Characteristics include high yields, easy to grow, medium foliage, early maturity, more drought resistant than most bush beans, and resists wilt and nematodes. Makes a good green manure crop for adding nitrogen to soil and is also a good animal fodder crop. Requires warm days/nights for best results.
